THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND NORWAY
What if Greta Thunberg were over 60 years old, would she look like me?
That’s how I feel!
Yet, what is a Norwegian lawyer doing promoting climate action to avoid much worse extreme weather events that will happen if we don’t act now to address climate change in an urgent manner.
Lawyers are supposed to be citizens helping people/ companies/ nations solve their legal problems or working in academia.
Okay, I worked in academia, teaching international law, sustainable development & trade, and climate change law in Colorado. Then, I realized people didn’t understand the climate change issue, so I wrote a novel, The Dirty Network, with climate change as part of the plot. Then, last year, I presented a paper on the Norwegian Oil Fund in Paris at the International Pension Research Association. And this last spring I gave two TEDx Talks focused on the climate crisis and voting and on young people taking action on climate change. More recently, on September 17, I marched with 75,000 other people in the climate change demonstration, called March to End Fossil Fuels, right here in New York City.
This evening I will share some thoughts about the climate crisis and Norway.
